The Great Room in the
Stone House
|
The history of what was to become Meadow Creek
B&B Inn begins in November 1915, when John
Gordon and his family lived in a tent on this land. In
May 1916, Mr. Gordon built the original 10' x 10' log
cabin, now used as a private residence.
Gordon died in 1929 and his wife sold the property to
Prince Balthasar Gialma Odescalchi of Italy, a noble of
the Holy Roman Empire.
Shortly after the purchase, the main
house known as the Stone Castle was build by
Prince Odescalchi and his Colorado socialite bride. The
Prince's wife, Elaine Wilcox Odescalchi, was daughter of
Charles McAllister Wilcox, who was president of Daniels
and Fisher when the D & F Tower was built in
Denver in 1910. (The Rocky Mountains were a magnet of
European nobility in the early part of the 20th century
and the beginnings of Meadow Creek B&B Inn
are just one example of this European influence.)

The property's history contributes to its charm. The
34 acre parcel on which the current day Meadow Creek
B&B Inn sits may have been part of a larger
estate but here, life appears to have been a simple one.
The cabin, smoke house and two barns which were part of
the original homestead still stand.
The Prince and his family lived here
until it was sold to R.W. Drake in 1940. Neglected
for several years, entrepreneurial spirits began
renovation of this once private residence into a modern
Bed & Breakfast by updating the Stone House plumbing
and adding hot water heating and private bathrooms for
each bedroom.
The main house has five guest bedrooms. The sixth
room (The Colorado Sun
Suite) was added in 1995. For those seeking even
more privacy, the Room in the
Meadow was added that overlooks the meadow
surrounding it, the hillside forest and a mountain range
in the distance.
These two suites average 350 square feet.
Acquired by the Holmes family in 2005, today's Meadow
Creek Bed & Breakfast Inn. is a highly sought-after
retreat for weddings, private
celebrations and corporate events and people that just
want to get away from the daily grind for a night or two. As
the BBIC noted recently -
In the past three years, the Holmes family has taken a beautiful and unique Inn and made it even better. The cleanliness and attention to detail are obvious throughout the lodge and property. The positive comments of guests attest to the enhancements in both food and hospitality.
Additionally, their 'User Friendly' website and accompanying rise in reservations are impressive.
Well done too, is the increased utilization of their beautiful event center. It's great to see
Meadow Creek in such capable hands. Keep up the Good
Work!!
